Description of School: Wisconsin Virtual School (WVS) is a service provider that partners with school districts throughout the state, to offer online education to middle and high school students. WVS "uncomplicates" the process of adding virtual courses to a district’s middle and high school curriculum. It takes care of the details, providing the content, platform, Wisconsin-certified online teachers, technical support, training, server, and much more. With WVS, districts can offer online options to their students with minimal cost and time. Districts retain control of key policy decisions and the enrollment. WVS helps districts define their policies for online learning. The WVS high-quality, interactive courses meet Wisconsin’s state standards as well as national standards.

Target Student Population: Fifty-five percent of students take WVS courses to make up credits. Other reasons include schedule conflicts, an accelerated pace, the experience of online learning, limited curriculum offerings, homebound status, study abroad, special education needs, expulsion, teen parents,…the list goes on.

Overview of Courses Offered: WVS courses are aligned to national and state standards. Course goals and objectives are available upon request. Each course is equal to .5 credits, which is granted by the local school district upon completion. Consult the WVS website at www.wisconsinvirtualschool.org for complete course descriptions. WVS offers more than 70 high school courses, 22 Advanced Placement courses, middle school courses in all four content areas, high school recovery courses, and test prep courses for ACT, SAT, and PSAT.

Enrollment and Registration Process: Students may register online any time, year round for any course. Course fees are charged per student, per course and include registration, software, course materials, course facilitation by a Wisconsin certified teacher, and technical support. The WVS program requires the district to assign a Local Education Guide (LEG) or mentor for the student who also serves as the liaison for the teacher. The students and their districts decide which courses to take. The school district enrolls its students at www.wisconsinvirtualschool.org. WVS confirms the student enrollment(s) and the LEG and student are sent emails with course access information. The district is billed for students who remains enrolled after a 14-day FREE trial period. (Other payment options, e.g. by parent, are available.)
