School Description: Northwoods Community Secondary School is a project based, 6-12, charter school. Students are either traditional site-based students or they are virtual students who come only at their appointed times. Virtual students utilize high-quality, standards driven on-line curriculum and standards based projects to obtain credit towards graduation. They are part of the charter school community and are encouraged to participate in the vast array of enrichment courses and field trips offered throughout the year.

Target Student Population: Students interested in getting their education from home and students who want to tailor their education to fit their individual learning styles are candidates for virtual education. Students who are successful in the virtual world are those who are self-motivated, can manage their time wisely, are able to work independently, and who enjoy project based learning.

Types of Courses Available: In general, the on-line courses offered are core content courses required for graduation. The majority of our on-line curriculum comes from:

Enrollment Process: From the website www.rhinelander.k12.wi.us select schools and Northwoods Community Secondary School. From the NCSS screen select forms and scroll down to find the application form for NCSS. Complete and return to NCSS. Upon receiving an application an interview form will be sent out. An interview date is set and a determination is made whether virtual school best fits the educational needs of the individual student. Finally an initial consult is scheduled and an individual education plan is devised.
