Description of School: Kiel eSchool opened its doors to students in the fall of 2002. Students who are home-schooled, credit deficient, homebound, accelerated, expelled, school age parents, gifted, etc. or have schedule conflicts can all benefit from the flexibility of taking courses that are available year round - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For many different reasons there are students who are not successful in a traditional classroom. Our students can access Internet courses with the assistance of an online teacher/facilitator, a Local Mentor/Teacher and a Personal/Family Coach. In order to ensure a truly individualized learning experience, a Personal Education Plan is developed for every student. PACE charts are also developed for each student for each course. Students can participate in online classes in their own homes or in a school computer lab.

Target Student Population: The school serves students in grades 7-12. The Kiel eSchool provides additional/alternative learning opportunities for students whose educational needs may be better met, in whole or in part, outside the traditional school setting.

Students may be enrolled in the traditional school part time and the online school part time. Some students are in the online school on a full-time basis. In accordance with NLCB, our online course options are helping students in our district and other districts be successful, who were not being successful before. Students regularly attending school who have not done so in the past and are learning to be responsible for their learning. Students are reporting that they now enjoy the experience of school. Students are earning credits towards their high school diploma. Students are taking ownership for their learning. Parents have communicated a more positive attitude about school by their children.

Overview of Courses Offered: Course offerings primarily include courses required for graduation and eighth grade core subject areas (math, science, language arts, social studies). But as the school continues to grow, additional course options are being added as well as those that become available as additional partnerships are developed. Please check the web site for course listings.

Enrollment and Registration Process: The application is available on our web site and students can fill it out and submit it electronically or by the paper version. If you are an out of district student, you will also be asked to have your school district fill out an Out of District Enrollment Form and have them include a letter stating they will pay our district a course fee per student per semester course. We have rolling enrollment, so students can enter our courses at any time during the calendar year.
