School Description: Appleton eSchool is an online charter high school that utilizes new and emerging technologies to provide high school students grades 9-12 access to high-quality standards-driven curriculum, in an environment that is self-paced and able to accommodate students' varying physical locations and time frames. The school was chartered April 22, 2002 and officially opened in the Fall of 2002. Enrolled students have access to their courses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from anywhere that they have Internet access with an operating system equivalent to or newer than Windows 98.

Target Student Population: Check the "Top Ten Reasons for Taking An Online Course" and "Why eSchool", available at our website to see the wide variety of reasons that students might consider online courses.

  • Any Appleton Areas School District resident grades 9-12 can enroll in Appleton eSchool online courses free of charge. Residents who are home schooled or attend private schools are limited to 2 courses total from the district of their residence. Either or both of those choices could be online courses.
  • Students from outside of the district would need to apply for Full or Part-time Open Enrollment, be part of a contract between their resident district and the Appleton Area School District or through private payment. The current cost for students from outside of the district is $339 per student, per course, per semester.
  • Expelled students must have a contract between the districts whether or not the family or the district is providing the payment for the course.

Types of Courses Available: The initial course offerings primarily include courses required for graduation but as the school continues to grow additional course options are being added as well as those that become available as additional partnerships develop. Please check the website for course listings.

Enrollment Process: On the Appleton eSchool website clicking on the Getting Started tab will provide the directions for enrollment for both in district and out of district students. Students and their parents need to complete and submit the Enrollment Form. Students and their guidance counselor complete the Counselor form. These documents are then sent to the Appleton eSchool office. (Plans are underway to have online registration available by the fall of 2004.)
Note: Students typically enroll at the beginning of a semester but may also enroll at the beginning of a month during the school year if seats are available in the requested course. Online courses are available during a 7-week summer session in partnership with the Fox Valley Summer Consortium. Students from any of the Consortium schools may enroll during the summer session.
